So you’ve found a software that is going to revolutionize your business! AWESOME!
“The key to everything is not what you say, it is how you say it. ALWAYS remember that, and you will be a lot more successful with communication.” – Alane Boyd
Even though you see the vision of how your new software is going to make everyone’s lives at work better and easier, to your employees, that may not be so. Introducing new software and new processes can feel overwhelming to them at first. The way you make the introduction matters. You want them to see your vision and feel like it is going to solve their problems as much as you do. Here are my top ways to do this:
1. Identify the problems your employees run into.
Create quick slides on the problems you’ve heard them talk about and how the software you want to implement can solve them. When they understand that you aren’t trying to make their lives harder and are there to make them better, they will be excited and have your back. Depending on the size of your company, either have a company meeting (10 or fewer employees) or meet with your managers and get their buy-in.
2. Create training processes BEFORE you present it to your employees.
If you wait to create the training on how to use the software or process until after you present to the employees who will be using it, the experience for them will be frustrating and, most likely, negative. Creating resources (or simply linking to resources online that the software has available) can make a HUGE difference in a positive outcome. Software platforms like Asana have put a lot of time into building their resource libraries so that you don’t have to: https://asana.com/guide.
3. Get buy-in from selected team members first.
You need a few champions for what you are putting in place. These champions will be able to talk with their coworkers and team members about how amazing the software is. It will create that positivity around it that you need. Even when things don’t work smoothly, they will be more likely to brush it off. Getting those champions to use it also helps work out any kinks in implementing the software in your business.
