In honor of International Women’s Day today, I wanted to reflect on the women who inspire me every day. I have hard days just like everyone else, where I want to give up, or I don’t think I am making a difference, or I’m flat just burned out. I need inspiration to keep me moving and keep those negative thoughts from taking over. So, I’ve made a list of women who motivate me, whether it’s through their podcasts, exchanging emails, seeing them once a month, following them on social media, calling, texting, etc. Each relationship is different but each one has impacted me in a positive way.
My goal in life now is to inspire other women, to encourage them to go after their dreams.
Here are the top women that inspire me:
1. Leah Hayes – cofounder of Her Story of Success. Leah built Her Story of Success with cofounder Ellen Hoffman while working full time in her very successful career at Insperity. I love hearing the stories shared on the Her Story of Success podcast, in which Leah and Ellen interview other women entrepreneurs on their journeys of success and fulfillment. There is a consistent trend I hear from all of the women interviewed: Yes, it is hard, I had to sacrifice, but I kept going and overcoming the obstacles, and now I measure success as time with my family and not just money that I have achieved. Isn’t time what we all want more of?
The long hours, the stress of running in multiple directions, and the feeling of making progress are all familiar feelings for Leah. She amazes me every day and I am thankful for the time that we get together. Thank you, Leah, for building a company about women inspiring other women! I am excited to see what the future has in store for you!
2. Kellie Fitzpatrick – owner of Lenny and Eva and several other jewelry brands. Kellie is an amazing person, running several companies (not just Lenny and Eva). Even as busy as she is, Kellie will never hesitate to have a meeting with another entrepreneur to offer advice and mentorship. I first met her when we were scaling the software company we recently sold. Kellie patiently answered all of our questions and continues doing that for other entrepreneurs. I now sit with her as one of the leaders of the Ladies Entrepreneur group at The Biz Foundry. Watching her business grow and the new companies she has started while being a mom and wife is an inspiration to me! Kellie, thank you for never stopping and encouraging everyone you meet to do the same!
3. Melissa Hartwig – cofounder of Whole30. While I have never met Melissa, I love what she has created with Whole30. While building her empire, she also has a young son and talks about how hard it is to do both! I use Whole30 as a lifestyle, trying to focus on eating whole foods and limiting sugar, which is tough! This lifestyle changed my life and I am thankful for all of the time, stress, and energy that Melissa has put into building her brand so that I could find it (also, thank you Crystal Montufar for running into me at the grocery store and letting me borrow your book!). Whole30 has also inspired many of the recipes in my cookbook, BurgerFit. Thank you, Melissa, for being a badass!
4. Of course, my mom, Debbie Boyd. My mom is strong and a fighter. I look back on her raising my siblings and me, working full time, cooking every meal for us, and taking care of the house…and I don’t know how she did it. I get overwhelmed with having one son and do a terrible job of cleaning my house! I will never understand how she has the energy to keep going every day. Now she spends her time helping me with this crazy adventure I call my life. Thanks, Mom, for always taking such good care of me!
Happy International Women’s Day! I’d love to hear what women have inspired you. Message me on Instagram @the_hurricanealane.
